collection of waka

this collection of waka was created during an assignment for a japanese literature class. initially, i wrote 32 poems. these ones are among my favorite of those

silent the squirrel
unfurls the muslin sack and
stash its chestnuts in
its land rummage the backpack
and ransack its sandwiches

---

i ponder upon
these drifting logs wandering
beyond its windswept
home i long for a change in
course but long been bound by force

---

a desolate night
starless sky may less of this
festive tinged bright lights
spar against my missed love its
shine subsides small in my sight

---

sullen eyes look down
fell into sight of mud mounds
ants look above then
mulls in their dirt hut and says
crawl in this life hope's unfound

---

bark cast out hollow
it folds like a log from far
marks last long still marred
is this soul stowed or fellow
discard body is no host

---

paper mache lair
tatters one stay there the mouse
sounds squeeks of despair
reeks in musty stale air downed
matter bared for winter's fare

---

years passed childhood creek
amassed nothing of note stood
rustling oaks gold beech ---
tears seep onto my sleave shook
off leaves and breathed heres my home

---

old log stumbles on
rubble along a cold pond ---
fondled from wilted
goldenrod silt and mud rub
stubble across the felled log
